Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) has reportedly agreed to pay $75M to settle a suit brought against it by the state of Mississippi regarding the safety of its talc-based baby powder.
Mississippi had sued J&J for not including warnings about suspected cancer risks on the product’s labeling. The state had originally sought damages of up to $6B, according to Bloomberg.
A non-jury trial for the case has been slated to next month, Bloomberg added.
On Wednesday, a federal judge in New Jersey ruled that J&J could again challenge scientific evidence that allegedly linked the company's talc products with certain cancers.
